We are pleased to announce the launch of a special issue of Acta IMEKO dedicated to PhotoMet 2025, titled: “Shaping the Future of Photonic Metrology”. It aims to provide a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge developments in photonic metrology, offering fundamental insights and application-oriented studies that highlight the growing impact of photonic technologies on modern measurement science.

This special issue will bring together extended versions of selected contributions presented at IMEKO PhotoMet 2025, reflecting recent advances in photonics-based measurement technologies and their applications in biomedicine, industry, energy and environmental monitoring. It will include topics such as innovative photonic sensors, optical metrology techniques, the integration of photonics into digital manufacturing and the role of light-based technologies in ensuring accuracy and sustainability. Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary approaches and real-world applications that demonstrate how photonic metrology is driving transformation in sectors such as automotive, healthcare, energy, and smart manufacturing.

Submission of papers for this Special Issue is by invitation only and limited to selected papers from authors who have presented their work at IMEKO PhotoMet 2025.

ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The main goal of this journal is to support the academic activities of IMEKO providing a wider dissemination of the scientific output from IMEKO events. High-quality papers presented at IMEKO conferences, workshops or congresses are selected by the event organisers and the authors are invited to submit an extended version of their paper to this journal.
Acta IMEKO also publishes scientific articles on measurement and instrumentation not related to an IMEKO event. The research area of ‘measurement and instrumentation’ should be interpreted as any of the fields covered by the IMEKO Technical Committees (TCs).
